Under one domain, this is all coming together like a study in the desire of humans to organize chaos. This was done with the help of some of the most grounded, non-elitist people you will ever meet. These people took the word of a nut-case like me, pondered the ideas and ran with them. Since May 4th we have amassed over 400 Mp3.Net Producers who have done all they can to bring this network to where it is today. So I take this opportunity to thank every Mp3.Net Producer because, as you obviously know, all of this would have been impossible without you guys.
Some people say I take crazy to another level, passing up the possibility of gaining 100’s of thousands of dollars a month in profit by riding on the back of the Peer to Peer phenomenon when I decided not to use MP3.Net to steal music from artists. I have spent a lot of time around artists while in my life and, not knowing how to play one cord on any instrument, I find myself asking how the hell I got myself in these highly artistic circles. Things change perspective when you find yourself in the very room where a recording of the Tea Party’s 2nd album is being made, instead of on the other end appreciating what happened that day. Jeff, the lead singer, opened his home and studio to me and gave me some of the most memorable nights in my life, along with a few blanks. What they do is an art and I knew I had to give back to all artists what they deserved: respect.
Stealing from these guys is senseless. I finally decided what I was going to do with this really great domain name I had in my back pocket.
There are several retail sites doing very well in the independent music industry, some reaching sales of millions of CD’s a month. Having had past experience with online startup business, I was in the mood to try something different with talented and creative people. That is when I decided to make an old dream a reality. It was immediately embraced and pushed forward with the unexpected enthusiasm of some of the most intuitive and innovative people I could ever have had the opportunity to work with.
After getting together with a system administrator who believed in MP3.Net as much as I did, a close friend of mine who happens to be a great project manager came on board, quickly followed by several writers, programmers and people from all walks of life, each with their own distinctive talents and expertise.
Less than 13 weeks later, here we are. Sounds pretty average, you say. Well what if I tell you that all Mp3.Net Producers bypass payment for their work, exchanging it rather for the exposure they will get from Network. This doesn’t mean, however, that they don’t make any money. There are many revenue sharing and distribution models that allow them to gain an income, but the work they do and their dedicated participation is offered pro bono to the network. This allows Mp3.Net to become one of the most original concepts ever throughout modern business structures. It will be the first on-line company in history to have
1. No share-holders and/or dividends
2. No payroll/salaries or payment for work.
3. No corporate office headquarters
4. No corporate structure
The nature of the network also permits us to ensure our non-profit status seeing as 99% of all revenue generated by the site returns to the site to keep it up and running.
Once you have finished reading this, the MP3.Net team will have multiplied in force, bringing you the best in technology, talent and accessibility available on the market. What you choose to do with this site will determine the worth of our efforts.
So what was once an unrealistic dream has finally come to fruition. I say let’s dig in and enjoy the fruits of our labors. Welcome to MP3.Net.
